Preston is a railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in the suburb of Preston, on the Epping railway line. Preston is classed as a Premium Station and is in Metcard Zones 1+2.

Preston is located between the Murray Road and Cramer Street level crossings, with station access from both.

The station consists of two side platforms; Platform 1 has a large brick building housing an enclosed waiting area, ticket facilities and toilets, while platform 2 has a smaller brick building. A large Metcard ticket vending machine is located inside the waiting area, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes, coins and debit cards. A coin-only Metcard ticket vending machine is located at the entrance to platform 2. An additional myki ticket vending machine is located inside the waiting area on platform 1.

Preston Market is located at the front of the citybound platform.

History

Preston station opened on 8 October 1889 as Preston - Murray Road, and was renamed Preston in 1905.[1] It was upgraded to a Premium Station in 1998.[2]
